Anti-Fraud Policy.
The petroleum products market attracts fraud. This policy explains how CoyEnergy operates to prevent it, the warning signs every counterparty should know, and how to report anything suspicious.
01 Overview
CoyEnergy ("CoyEnergy", "we", "us" or "our") is an independent energy consultancy based in Los Angeles, California, working within the international petroleum products sector. We act as an intermediary that helps qualified parties verify counterparties and navigate transactions under standard, bankable structures.
The physical oil and gas market is a frequent target for fraud. Advertised volumes far exceed what can genuinely be performed, and bad actors exploit that gap. This policy sets out how we work to keep our process honest and what you can do to protect yourself.
02 Our Commitment
CoyEnergy maintains a zero-tolerance approach to fraud, misrepresentation and deception. We do not knowingly participate in, facilitate or ignore any transaction that relies on false documents, fabricated allocations, unverifiable supply or misleading claims.
- We decline opportunities we cannot substantiate.
- We disengage from parties who refuse reasonable verification.
- We follow orderly, ICC-aligned procedures rather than non-standard shortcuts.
03 How We Operate
Our process is built to surface what does not hold up before an opportunity advances. In practice, this means:
- Counterparty verification — we work to establish seller authority, supply access and buyer capability before proceeding.
- Refinery-aligned supply — we favour supply that can be traced to credible, refinery-backed sources.
- Standard structures — FOB liftings and CIF contracts supported by LC or SBLC, following recognised commercial practice.
- Documentary discipline — we expect procedures and documents to be consistent, verifiable and ICC-compliant.
04 Common Fraud Schemes
Fraud in this sector tends to follow recognisable patterns. Be especially cautious of:
- Advance-fee fraud — demands for upfront payments, "registration", "tank storage" or "POP" fees before any verifiable commitment exists.
- Fake allocations and mandates — forged refinery allocation letters, authorisations or "soft corporate offers" that cannot be independently confirmed.
- Spoofed or altered documents — doctored SGS reports, bills of lading, tank receipts or bank instruments.
- Impersonation — individuals falsely claiming to represent refineries, national oil companies, CoyEnergy or its founder, often using look-alike email domains.
- Non-standard procedures — unusual payment or title-transfer sequences designed to extract money or documents before obligations are real.
05 Warning Signs
Treat any of the following as reasons to slow down and verify:
- Pressure to pay fees or move quickly "before the allocation is lost".
- Prices far below prevailing market levels with no credible explanation.
- Refusal to submit to reasonable verification or to follow standard procedures.
- Inconsistent names, domains, addresses or documents.
- Requests to communicate only through informal channels or personal email accounts.
- Instruments or documents that cannot be confirmed through the issuing bank or authority.
06 How to Protect Yourself
- Independently verify the identity and authority of every counterparty.
- Confirm bank instruments directly with the issuing institution, never through contacts provided by the other party.
- Do not pay advance fees to unverified parties.
- Insist on standard, bankable structures and documented procedures.
- Seek your own legal, financial and technical advice before committing funds.
- Confirm that any message claiming to be from CoyEnergy originates from our official @coyenergy.com domain.
07 Payments & Fees
CoyEnergy does not solicit advance "processing", "registration" or "release" fees as a condition of exploring an opportunity. Any legitimate fee arrangement with CoyEnergy is agreed in writing in advance and documented. If someone requests payment in our name outside of a written agreement, treat it as fraudulent and report it to us immediately.
08 Reporting Suspected Fraud
If you believe you have encountered fraud involving the petroleum market, a party claiming association with CoyEnergy, or our founder, please contact us at [email protected] with as much detail as you can, including names, documents, email addresses and dates. Where appropriate, we also encourage you to report to your local law-enforcement or financial-crime authority.
09 No Endorsement
Verification reduces risk but cannot eliminate it. The information in this policy is provided to help you exercise your own judgement and is not a guarantee regarding any party or transaction. CoyEnergy does not endorse, warrant or accept liability for the conduct of third parties, and you remain responsible for your own due diligence and decisions. This policy should be read alongside our Transaction Disclaimer and Terms of Service.
